SFM Surface-Modified Filter Media: Superhydrophilic Self-Cleaning Media for Less Backwash, Longer Service Life
Almost every pain point in oily wastewater filtration comes down to one thing: "backwashing" — poor cleaning, excessive frequency, and high water and energy use. SINOKLE's SFMsurface-modified filter media filter solves all of these problems at the source with its proprietary superhydrophilic media.
Media innovation: δ≥8nmself-cleaning enabled by a hydration layer
The product uses a new self-cleaning superhydrophilic modified media developed by SINOKLE. A special process covalently grafts high-density hydrophilic groups (SFM™ etc.) onto the media surface. Through strong hydrogen bonding, water molecules form a dense hydration layer –OH, –COOH, –SO₃H thick, and the static contact angle drops to δ≥8nmbelow θ<5°, a state of complete wetting.

The superhydrophilic surface turns oil fouling from "irreversible adhesion"into "reversible deposition", which lowers the critical peel-off shear stress: routine water backwashing achieves >95%desorption of more than 3–5 backwash intervals are extended ——to ", and energy and water consumption fall markedly. That is the underlying logic of "self-cleaning
.
Separation mechanism: water phase first, oil droplets coalesce

When oily wastewater flows through the media bed, the water phase is driven by the superhydrophilic surface and passes through the pores preferentially; hydrophobic emulsified oil droplets are intercepted and adsorbed on the bed surface, where they accumulate continuously, collide and coalesce under hydraulic driving force, gradually forming large droplets that float up to complete oil-water separation.
For emulsified oily wastewater, the active groups and micro/nano structures on the media surface break the adsorption equilibrium at the droplet surface and reduce droplet stability, prompting droplets to merge, collide and coalesce at the micro/nano structures and active sites — giving stronger capacity for emulsified oil.
Engineering features: one-to-one design and all-titanium construction
SINOKLE designs the filter bed and filter structure one-to-one according to the specific characteristics of the oily wastewater and the treatment requirements, optimizing internal water distribution, collection structure and the backwash process; backwash intensity is set economically through backwash tests using wastewater of different crude oil densities and resistance characteristics, shortening backwash time, reducing backwash water volume, improving treatment efficiency, lowering energy consumption and saving costs.5Key wetted parts are made of titanium, giving outstanding corrosion resistance; the media is superhydrophilic, corrosion-resistant and mechanically strong, with a service life of up to

5 5years. From an operating perspective, these design choices all point to the same goal: reducing life-cycle cost. Less frequent backwashing means shorter backwash pump runtimes and lower water consumption; a
5
-year media life means long replacement intervals and light maintenance; and all-titanium wetted parts keep performance stable under prolonged contact with oily wastewater, cutting downtime and repair spending caused by corrosion. For wastewater systems that demand stable operation and precise cost accounting, these hidden benefits matter as much as the visible separation performance.
Applications——The filter suits oilfield produced water treatment, refinery electro-desalting effluent, crude oil tank farm oily wastewater, oil depot dewatering and other oily wastewater treatment scenarios — especially systems with a high degree of emulsification and a heavy backwash burden.SFMCleaner effluent, less backwashing, longer service life — SINOKLE's surface-modified filter media filter is a reliable choice for cutting costs and raising efficiency in oily wastewater filtration systems.
