How is sulfur-containing wastewater from refineries typically treated?

The sulfur- and ammonia-containing wastewater from refineries, commonly known as sulfur wastewater or acidic water, has a complex composition. It is severely emulsified with oil, contains high levels of coke powder, and is particularly difficult to treat. It poses a significant challenge to downstream treatment equipment and wastewater treatment plants.

To address the challenges in treating sulfur-containing wastewater (acidic water), Shenzhen Clear Science & Technology Co., Ltd (SINOKLE) has developed a treatment process with the core technologies of "CDFU (Cyclonic Dissolved Gas Flotation Unit) + KFM Filter." This process utilizes ultrafine nanobubbles and a special modified coalescence demulsification pure physical demulsification technology, which is patented by our company. The overall technology has reached an internationally advanced level.

This project’s sulfur-containing wastewater (acidic water) de-oiling system is used to treat highly emulsified sulfur-containing wastewater (acidic water) discharged from the top separation tank of the delayed coking distillation tower. With influent oil content ≤ 100,000 ppm (10%) and SS (suspended solids) ≤ 500 ppm, the sulfur-containing wastewater de-oiling system, which uses our core technology of "CDFU (Cyclonic Dissolved Gas Flotation Unit) + KFM Filter," can treat the wastewater to achieve an effluent oil content ≤ 100 ppm and SS (suspended solids) ≤ 10 ppm.
