In power generation, oily wastewater has long been a major environmental challenge, especially at heavy oil tank farms, light oil tank farms and coal washing units of thermal power plants, where the wastewater is complex and hard to treat. Oily wastewater at power plants comes mainly from tank farm drainage and equipment washing. It has high oil content, a complex composition and strongly fluctuating quality, and conventional treatment is often inefficient, costly and generates secondary pollution.

Drawing on its innovative CDFU cyclonic dissolved-air flotation and other core technologies, SINOKLE provides efficient, reliable solutions for power plant wastewater. The new solution uses purely physical demulsification with no chemical dosing, eliminating oily sludge at the source and avoiding secondary pollution.

Technical core:

CDFU Cyclonic dissolved-air flotation unit: developed in-house by SINOKLE, the CDFU unit integrates cyclonic centrifugal separation, dissolved-air flotation and microbubble technology into a distinctive process. By generating microbubbles of 5-30 microns it greatly improves oil-water separation, with single-stage oil removal above 90% and suspended solids removal above 85%. Compared with conventional equipment, the CDFU delivers clear advantages: residence time is cut from 15-40 minutes to under 5 minutes, and the footprint is only one third of conventional equipment, ideal for space-constrained power plants.

KFM active filter media filter: this equipment shows outstanding technical advantages in power plant wastewater treatment, especially for oily wastewater. The technology uses atomic layer deposition (ALD) modified active filter media and achieves high-efficiency purification through a super-hydrophilic nanostructure, negative-charge adsorption and physical interception.

KFM active filter media filter Core technical features

Ultra-high filtration precision: minimum filtration rating of 1 micron; over 95% interception of 1-micron suspended solids; effluent oil down to ≤6mg/L and suspended solids ≤2mg/L

Long service life: the media is highly wear resistant, with a service life of up to 15 years, annual top-up of only 5% and a wear rate as low as 0.07‰

Intelligent operation control: a fully automatic PLC system performs intelligent backwashing, restoring 100% performance in 5-10 minutes and cutting backwash water by 70%

Field application case

At a fuel power station wastewater project in Bangladesh, the train uses two-stage CDFU+KFM filter media filtration at 120m³/d. With feed oil ≤2000mg/L, treated effluent stays at ≤10mg/L oil with much lower suspended solids. The skid-mounted, compact design suits space-constrained power plants.

Process innovation advantages

SINOKLE's technology shows multiple advantages in power plant wastewater treatment. Its intelligent control system supports remote monitoring and unattended operation, greatly reducing labour costs; the equipment has strong shock resistance and handles ±30% water volume fluctuation; and the fully enclosed pressurised design eliminates any risk of oil and gas leakage, ensuring safe operation. In practice the system can cut influent oil from ≤10000mg/L to ≤10mg/L and suspended solids from ≤500mg/L to ≤20mg/L.

Technical and economic benefits

SINOKLE's solution delivers good economics as well as treatment performance. Compared with conventional processes, operating costs fall by 20-30% and energy use by more than 40%. Equipment life exceeds 15 years with long maintenance intervals, greatly reducing whole-life cost. This cost-effective solution supports power plants in achieving both compliance and profitability.
