Refinery wastewater is complex in composition, containing crude oil, sulfides, phenols, COD and other pollutants - difficult to treat and subject to stringent environmental requirements. The traditional process is dominated by 'oil separation - flotation - biochemical treatment', with the core pretreatment stage commonly using horizontal-flow flotation and shallow (compact) flotation and similar technologies.
Horizontal-flow flotation generates bubbles by aeration to adsorb oil; it is simple in structure and cheap, suitable for pretreating wastewater with lower pollutant concentrations, but has obvious shortcomings: bubble diameters are large (50-100 μm), the contact area with pollutants is small, and treatment efficiency is only 60%-70%; the tanks occupy a large area, require 30-60 minutes' residence time, easily accumulate scum and need frequent maintenance. Shallow flotation optimizes bubble distribution and raises efficiency to 75%-85%, but the equipment is complex, energy consumption is higher, and performance on high-concentration oily wastewater (oil content >500 mg/L) remains unstable, failing to meet current discharge standards.

Some refineries also use combined processes such as 'inclined-plate settling tank + walnut shell/fiber ball filtration' or 'settling tank + centripetal flotation + fiber ball/multi-media filtration + ceramic membrane'. These traditional methods met basic treatment needs for a time, but have obvious defects: unstable performance, poor shock resistance, and a tendency to form aged oil; complex process flow, large footprint, difficult operation and maintenance; and, more importantly, they require chemical dosing, which may cause secondary pollution.

Especially with high pollutant concentrations or flow fluctuations, traditional processes often fail to run stably, effluent quality fluctuates greatly, and increasingly strict discharge standards cannot be met.

Technology breakthrough: SINOKLE CDFU cyclonic dissolved air flotation unit

The SINOKLE CDFU cyclonic dissolved air flotation unit integrates cyclonic centrifugal separation, dissolved air flotation and ultrafine bubble technology, bringing a revolutionary breakthrough in refinery wastewater treatment.

Core technical advantages:

· High-efficiency treatment: single-stage oil removal efficiency above 90%, suspended solids removal above 85%, effluent oil stably controlled below 5 mg/L

· Ultra-fast treatment: residence time of only 1-5 minutes, 3-8 times more efficient than traditional flotation

· Zero chemical dosing: purely physical demulsification eliminates oily sludge at the source and avoids secondary pollution

· Compact intelligent design: skid-mounted structure occupies only 1/3 of traditional equipment, with IoT integration for remote monitoring

Field application results

In actual projects, CDFU technology demonstrates outstanding performance. In the electro-desalting wastewater treatment project of a petrochemical company in Cangzhou, Hebei, the company adopted the "coalescing pressure deoiler + CDFU cyclonic dissolved air flotation" combined process, and the technology successfully achieved efficient water purification.

In a black water treatment project at a petrochemical company in Xinjiang, the "coalescing pressure deoiler + two-stage CDFU cyclonic dissolved air flotation" combined process achieved a single-unit treatment capacity of 150 m³/h with stable, compliant effluent.

Particularly noteworthy, CDFU units adopt a modular design - easy to install with a short construction period - ideal for upgrading existing refinery facilities. Their intelligent operation system greatly cuts labor costs, enabling fully automatic unattended operation.

Technology comparison and prospects

Compared with traditional processes, CDFU technology has clear advantages in treatment performance, operating cost and environmental benefits. Its purely physical demulsification not only keeps treatment green, but also saves enterprises substantial chemical costs.

As environmental policies continue to tighten and the refining industry upgrades, SINOKLE CDFU technology is becoming the industry's preferred wastewater treatment solution. It not only relieves the current environmental pressure on refiners, but also provides reliable technical support for the industry's sustainable development.
