Ozone Micro-Bubble Technology: A New Oxidation Paradigm for Oily Wastewater
In oily wastewater treatment, conventional oil removal technologies face widespread difficulties: incomplete degradation, high operating cost and secondary pollution. Ozone oxidation offers strong oxidizing power, but conventional aeration suffers from low mass transfer efficiency, poor ozone utilisation and high cost, so its potential has never been fully realised.
As a core outcome of SINOKLE's technology development, ozone micro-bubble technology is breaking through with a revolutionary oxidation capability and offering an efficient, economical and green solution for oily wastewater.
Core Breakthrough: From Ordinary Bubbles to Micro-Bubbles
1. Mass Transfer: From Gas Escape to Efficient Dissolution
Conventional ozone aeration produces large bubbles, typically of the order of millimetres, which rise and escape quickly, so gas-liquid contact time is short and the actual ozone dissolution rate is often below 30%. The SINOKLE ozone micro-bubble system generates bubble clouds smaller than 50 micrometres. Their specific surface area is nearly a hundred times greater, and they rise slowly or remain suspended in the water, so the ozone dissolution rate is consistently above 70% and the same dose delivers a multiple of the oxidation effect.

2. Oxidation Mechanism: From Single Oxidation to Combined Attack
Ordinary ozone bubbles rely mainly on direct oxidation by the ozone molecule, which is of limited effectiveness against emulsified oil and dissolved organic matter. At the moment a micro-bubble contracts and collapses it creates an extreme local environment of high temperature and high pressure, which efficiently drives ozone decomposition into hydroxyl radicals (OH). As one of the strongest oxidising species found in nature, the hydroxyl radical cleaves large oil molecules non-selectively, so demulsification of emulsified oil and degradation of dissolved oil proceed simultaneously and efficiently.
3. Working Depth: From Surface Contact to Interfacial Enrichment
Micro-bubbles carry a negative surface charge and are electrostatically attracted to the positively charged emulsified oil droplets commonly found in oily wastewater, which enriches pollutants at the interface. This targeted accumulation concentrates the oxidation reaction in the high-concentration interfacial zone and greatly accelerates it. Measured data for typical refinery oily wastewater show that the micro-bubble system shortens demulsification time by 60% and raises oil removal efficiency by more than 40%.
SINOKLE Solution: Optimised for Oily Wastewater Characteristics
SINOKLE understands how complex and stable oily wastewater is, and the ozone micro-bubble system has been reinforced accordingly.
Combined demulsification and oxidation: the physical shear released as micro-bubbles collapse directly damages the electrical double layer on the oil droplet surface, and the chemical oxidation by radicals adds a second mechanism, giving physical demulsification plus chemical degradation. The combination is particularly suited to hard-to-treat oil-in-water emulsions.
Fouling-resistant gas distribution: a proprietary anti-clogging microporous generator keeps performance stable over long periods in high-oil wastewater and avoids the tendency of conventional aerators to be coated by oil.
Intelligent dosing control: ozone dose and bubble size are adjusted in real time according to influent oil content, COD and other parameters, which secures treatment performance while minimising operating cost.
Measured Comparison: Efficiency and Economics
At petrochemical and machining customers, the SINOKLE ozone micro-bubble system has shown clear advantages.
| Indicator | Conventional ozone aeration | SINOKLE ozone micro-bubble system | Improvement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ozone dose ratio (to COD) | 1.5 to 4 | 0.5 to 1.2 | 2 to 4 times better |
| Demulsification time for emulsified oil | 40 to 60 minutes | 10 to 15 minutes | 60% shorter |
| COD removal (dissolved oil) | 30% to 50% | 70% to 85% | 40 to 50 percentage points higher |
| Overall operating cost | Baseline | 30% to 40% lower | Substantial savings |
Application Scope: Integrated Oil Removal Across the Process
Building on the core ozone micro-bubble technology, SINOKLE has developed a series of solutions for different duties.
Pre-treatment intensification: placed ahead of flotation or biological treatment, it rapidly breaks high-concentration emulsions and reduces the load on downstream units.
Advanced treatment core: applied to secondary effluent, it removes residual dissolved oil and refractory organics and keeps discharge reliably within limits.
Water reuse: in reuse trains it removes oil and organic pollutants efficiently, protecting reuse water quality and system stability.
Redefining the Standard for Oily Wastewater Treatment
SINOKLE has always concentrated on developing and improving oily wastewater treatment technology. Real technical progress is measured not by laboratory data but by whether it solves the customer's actual problems: lower treatment cost, more stable effluent quality and simpler operation and maintenance.
Ozone micro-bubble technology is more than a process improvement. It represents a shift in the paradigm of oxidative treatment of oily wastewater: from consumptive treatment that depends on chemical dosing to a green process built on physical intensification and advanced oxidation; and from staged, step-by-step treatment to a synergistic, integrated solution.
